As a lifelong resident of Hancock County, I have dedicated my life and career to serving and protecting our community. Born and raised here, I have spent my life, alongside my wife Stacey of 31 years, where we raised our children, Nicholas and Katelynn, and built our home.
My law enforcement career began in 1990 when I joined the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time corrections officer while attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle. I later earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a minor in physical education. In 1992, I became a full-time patrol deputy and graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Throughout my career, I have been committed to addressing the growing challenges facing our county, particularly the dangers of substance abuse. As an instructor for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in Hancock County schools, I saw firsthand the impact of drugs on our youth and recognized the need for proactive measures.
In 2004, I was one of three officers assigned to the first Hancock County Drug Task Force, working with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA). Initially focused on Hancock County, the task force later expanded to Washington County. From 2004 to 2010, I served as an MDEA special agent, later being promoted to supervisory special agent in 2010, where I led the task force until 2016. At that time, I returned to the patrol division, where my leadership was needed.
In 2017, I was promoted to patrol lieutenant, balancing fieldwork with administrative responsibilities. In 2022, I was honored to be appointed chief deputy, serving until 2023. Currently, I continue my law enforcement career as a detective with the Ellsworth Police Department.
Beyond my professional service, I have been deeply committed to our community for decades. For over 30 years, I have coached youth basketball at Hancock Grammar School and Ellsworth Junior High and High School, as well as soccer, softball, and baseball throughout the years.
I was instrumental in establishing Sheriff Charities, which supports initiatives such as the Sheriff’s Cup Basketball Tournament, Christmas for Kids, and programs that assist the elderly during the holiday season. Additionally, I have previously been involved with the YMCA Youth Sports Committee, working to provide athletic opportunities for young people in our area.
I also played a key role in establishing and developing the Town of Hancock Recreational Committee, helping to expand community programs and activities. Most recently, I helped organize Wreaths to Honor Veterans – Woodbine, an organization dedicated to ensuring that every veteran at Woodbine Cemetery receives a wreath on National Wreaths Across America Day.
I have continued to serve our community in various leadership roles, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of Hancock County residents. My experience in patrol, investigations, and drug enforcement has given me a deep understanding of the challenges we face and the solutions needed to address them.
As your sheriff, I will bring trusted, transparent leadership to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. My priorities include:
I am committed to fair, professional, and accountable law enforcement that protects and serves every resident of Hancock County. I look forward to earning your support and continuing my lifelong commitment to justice, integrity, and public service.
Through these efforts, I have remained committed to giving back to the community that has given so much to me, and I will continue to do so as your Hancock County Sheriff.
